Roane County, located on the Tennessee River in east Tennessee, was created in 1801 from Knox County and Indian lands. It was name in honor of Archibald Roane, delegate to the 1796 Constitutional Convention, judge of the Superior Court of Law and Equity, judge of the Supreme Court of Tennessee and governor of Tennessee. The W. P. A. Workers went around the county gathering the Bible Records of the area from both black and whites. This is the material gathered from the black community in the late 1930s.
