A common local legend has existed for many years that movie star Elizabeth Taylor and her fourth husband, Eddie Fisher, once stayed at the Castle in the Clouds Hotel, the building that opened as the Lookout Mountain Hotel in 1928 and later became part of Covenant College.

Slugger Mark McGwire played for Huntsville against the Chattanooga Lookouts at Engel Stadiums four times in May 1986, although he did not hit a home run. He did, however, hot one in each of two games he played against the Lookouts in Huntsville that year.

The man who coined the term Medicare was a 1927 University of Chattanooga graduate.

Noted psychic "Doc" Anderson of Chattanooga counseled a number of Hollywood celebritites, including Burl Ives, Eddie Albert, Doris Day, June Allyson, and Charlton Heston.
